NEISD Used Book Sale

3/31/2015

Parents,
This is the last week for book donations for the NEISD Council of PTAs Used Book Sale!  We have not yet reached our participation goal of 25%.  If 25% of our Tigers donate a book, Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. McCurry will dress like Thing 1 and Thing 2 for the day.  Please encourage your student(s) to find a few books that they can donate to a good cause.  Every donation earns a spirit stick, and the 25 students who donate the most books will receive a gift certificate to the Scholastic book fair in May.

Wednesday will be the last day to drop off your books curbside during morning arrival (7:15 to 7:45am).  Thursday will be the last day for donations left in the foyer.  The books will be taken to the Littleton Gym on Monday morning for the sale next weekend.

Thank you,
Stacey Light

THE's PTA Run For The Heights Survey

3/30/2015

Hello -

Before we finish out the school year and head into summer, we are reflecting on this year's event and would like your input and feedback in order to better prepare for next year and improve on the event overall.

Please complete the following 10 question survey by Monday, Apr 6. This shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes of your time. Each family only needs to complete one if you have multiple children,

Copy & paste the survey link in your browser:

First - https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JMZQZ7X

Our goal is to gain a general consensus of the following:

1. Interest in continuing with the event as our primary fundraiser

2. Possibility of a date change (fall vs spring) for the event

3. Level of parent interest for participation vs. other fundraiser opportunities

4. Level of volunteer interest, especially for a new core team post 2015-2016 school year

5. Increasing THE Student participation overall

Overall, this year's event brought in roughly $22K net income for THE PTA. We had a total of 851 registrations (5K, Fun Run, and Tusky donations combined). Of these registrations about 250 were an actual THE student. The 2 graphs below give you an idea of the participation and financial trends over the past 5 years.

We have also posted the photos from the event on our website. http://runfortheheights.tuscanyheightspta.org/. Check them out!!!

Thank you all for your support and hard work this year!

Kind regards,

 Jennifer

North East ISD is hosting Girls Inc. Science Festival at Hero’s stadium on May 2nd from 10-2. http://www.girlsincsa.com/index.php/girls-inc-rockit-into-the-future-science-festival-2015/girls-inc-rockit-into-the-future-science-festival-2015-3163/

The festival is a family-friendly event featuring hands-on science activities and workshops to encourage girls ages 6 to 18 to participate in STEM by exploring, asking questions and solving problems at festival activity booths.

Research suggests that girls are less likely to pursue a career in math, science and technology.  Research also demonstrates that parents, teachers and other adults typically do not expect girls to perform as well as boys in science, math and related subjects, regardless of their true potential or demonstrated ability.  However, Girls Inc. knows that girls can be the next astronaut, mathematician, medical researcher, ground breaking petroleum engineer and more than we can imagine!

We believe that girls deserve a supportive and experiential environment where they feel invited and encouraged to join the fun of discovering the world around them and where they can prove to themselves that they do like and can be good at science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); it’s essential to girls persisting in STEM education and preparing for lucrative STEM careers that most of them would otherwise never consider. Our annual Girls Inc. RockIt Into the Future Science Festival is exactly that – it’s a positive and encouraging environment that develops girls’ enthusiasm for STEM by providing a variety of hands-on, mind-on activities and opportunities for girls and their families to interact with women and men in STEM fields.

News from Bush Middle School (attached flyer):

Dear Future Bush Bulldogs,

It's that time of year where we begin the process of selecting our Bush Middle School PTA Officers and Committee Chairs for the next school year.  The nominating committee, which was elected by the PTA membership at our February meeting, is charged with presenting to the membership their recommended slate of officers at the April general PTA meeting.

If you are interested in serving in one of the Officer or Committee Chair positions, please complete the attached form and return to Vikki Koveck (Nominating Committee Chair) at vrkoveck@yahoo.com by March 27th. You may also leave it at the Front Office at Bush Middle School.   Also, if you are interested in finding out more about the positions and what they entail, please don't hesitate to email me.

Sincerely,

Bush PTA

Parents and Students,

We hope that you all had a safe and relaxing Spring Break! We look forward to greeting our students tomorrow and embracing the upcoming 4th nine weeks with them.

On a safety note, just a few reminders:

Attached Find Parking Lot Overview Map

When dropping off, please do not use the parking lot. Park in a space and allow students safe access to the sidewalk or crosswalk.

Car Rider Line- Please do not pull out of line or back-up and pull out of line(This causes opportunites for pedestrians to be hit or another car to hit you when pulling out of line. Please be patient and move forward with the lines.

Dropping Off- Please pull all the way down in the car rider line so that all cars can move forward. When you stop, the cars behind you don't move. Therefore, it does create a longer line for our drop off and potentially cars in the Wilderness Oak intersection.

Walkers from Summerglenn- The gym doors will remain locked until 7:15a.m. when our staff starts duty. If you have a walker entering before 7:15a.m., they will need to go through the recess gate, down the sidewalk, and enter in the front. I have one staff member on duty at 7:00a.m. to monitor early arrivers.

We apprecaite your support in safety and not only wanted to send reminder but share the "why" behind our request. Thanks for keeping our families safe!

T.H.E. PTA Presents … MAGIK THEATRE (newsletter omission)

The Magik theatre on the road team brought experience and an exciting personal touch to each of the Tuscany Heights students on February 6th. The experience started for our students when they entered the cafeteria and discovered a real theatre inside their school.

This time Magik Theatre brought two different shows, the first show called Rumpelstilskin and the second one called Dr. Krashunbang. The first show was presented for kinder, first and second graders and the second show for third, fourth and fifth graders. Introducing students to the process of creating a work of performing art, the actors gave great, fun and creative shows.

Rumpelstilskin began when the king has locked Gabby in a straw-filled room, with orders to spin gold or lose her head! When a crafty man with a secret name offers to help, Gabby makes him a promise she isn’t prepared to keep. Now Gabby has three days to guess the man’s name. What students take away from watching this wonderful performance is that you never make any promises that you are not prepare to keep.

Dr. Krashundbang is an interactive one-man show that seamlessly blends science and theatre into an exhilarating lesson through experimentation and humor. With his exciting and mostly harmless experiments Dr. Krashundbang demonstrated the scientific method and brought the physical science to Tuscany Heights. The kids had so much fun and also they could reinforce what they have been learning through the year.

Throughout the shows, the students had a great time laughing and learning at the same time. We believe that the type of shows that we have been able to bring to Tuscany Heights have been great for our kids because they have helped awaken their love for writing, drawing, performing, sculpting, dancing, composing, and creating; all integral parts of a well - rounded individual.

Jump Rope for Heart Details

3/8/2015

Your students were given the following details about this!

The American Heart Association came to our school today to kick-off this year’s Jump Rope For Heart program!

The Kick-Off introduced kids to the 5 for Life curriculum including how all of our students will become Heart Heroes!  How?  There are three ways!

    • First – they learn about their       hearts and how to keep them healthy. Just ask your kiddo to tell you all       about each the lifesaver ducks health message or Click       here to see the video!
    • Second – by being Heart       Healthy Messengers and sharing what they are learning in PE with the       grown-ups in their lives.
    • Third – by joining the fight       against heart disease and stroke by collecting donations.  Donations       fund research for cures and prevention through community education.       Raising donations is easier than ever online at www.heart.org/jump       or by downloading the Jump/Hoops app and sending messages that include       both a request for support and the warning signs for heart disease and       stroke!

What is 5 For Life?  Five ways kids can make healthy choices that protect their heart from disease!  Eating fruits and veggies, never ever smoking, drinking lots of water, getting plenty of rest, watching for sneaky salt and, of course, staying really active!  Each of the collectable Lifesaver ducks has his own message.

What’s up with the ducks?  Students that begin fundraising, collect at least $5 (from the donation envelope or online) will get a lanyard and their very own Quacky Duck as soon as the next time they come to PE!  If they go online or download the Jump/Hoops App and get their first online donation, they will also get the sneaky Scribbles Ninja duck!  www.heart.org/jump to find our school, join the team and get started.

Thank you for helping our school support the American Heart Association!!!!! Donations are DUE March 28th!

Splatter Quacky LOVES fruits and veggies for his snack.  Scribbles Ninja always stays in tip-top shape and never ever smokes!
