April 27, 2014 Parents, As wonderful as it is to have been home with my family the last nine weeks, I sure enjoyed coming back to see all the sweet student faces this past week. I am thrilled to be back on board and wrapping of this school year with everyone. We had a very busy week. It began with STAAR Assessments. I saw our students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade working so hard this week to pour their knowledge into the state assessments. I am so proud of them! I know our results will make you proud too! Then, we had a safety concern that made our community a bit uneasy. I commend our staff, students, and parents for being cautious in every aspect. We never know when something could happen, but I feel comfortable and confident with our team efforts. We will continue to look out for our students and their safety. It will always be a priority. Again, thank you to our WatchDOGS that joined forces with us on Thursday. We truly appreciated your help! It is with great pleasure that I share the strong support we have among our families. Not only do we have the best teaching staff, best students, but also we having amazing parents. Yesterday, we had 6 WatchDOGS here to help us secure the grounds and give peace of mind to all within the building as well as those at home worried about their children. This program is an integral part of Tuscany Heights' success and I want to thank all of the dads for joining. A special thanks to those that were here offering their support on a day that made many feel uneasy. We made the www.neisd.net home page. You will find our picture along with several other campuses. Thank you to these special dads and their great kids! I have also attached a picture. Enjoy your three day weekend with family! PROUD PRINCIPAL BAILEY Parents,
Please see the attached letter regarding a change on our campus. Thank you, Tara Bailey Letter Regarding Assistant Principal Parents,
I know that you received a hard copy per NEISD request as well as an electronic copy of the Superintendent's letter to declare tomorrow a "closed campus". I want to clarify what this means for us: Classes will resume as normal, Activities centered around large or small groups of visitors to campus have been postponed, WatchDOGS will continue to be present (10 Dads) and one is a law enforcement officer, All doors will be locked and no outdoor activities, All visitors approaching the front will be greeted and entrance will be determined upon circumstances, and we are on high alert per district directives. Thank you for understanding we are looking out for the safety of the students. Thank you, Tara Bailey Parents,
It was a great day at T.H.E.! Our 3rd and 4th graders worked very hard on STAAR today and we are ready for tomorrow. On a safety note, please take a moment to read the local news reports regarding the recent "threat". They have reported that the threats are not credible. I have posted one link below: http://www.woai.com/articles/woai-local-news-sponsored-by-five-star-cleaners-119078/police-school-threats-not-credible-12277392 However, we are still taking this very serious and have our procedures in place at T.H.E. Please find the precautions below that we are taking over the next few days and know that we will continue to be on high alert given the recent "threat". Staff continues to review all of our procedures and answer student questions in regards to procedures. We are encouraging them that school is a safe place yet also being transparent that we always need to be cautious of our surroundings. NEISD is supporting our campuses by providing an NEPD Officer to us and one other school on Thursday. Each officer is responsible for two campuses. He/She will patrol both campuses as well as enter the building to provide visiblity and security. These officers are being pulled from their usual duties on Thursday which may impact traffic concerns, but the Chief of Police has assured us the safety at our campuses is most important. Also, Suzanne and Doug Opersteny have arranged for several WatchDOGS (DADS) to help us out over the next two days. Starting tomorrow, we have two WatchDOGS that will patrol the exterior perimeter of the building and parking lot to provide security. Since it is a closed campus for STAAR, they will remain outdoors. On Thursday, we have a larger group (around 8 WatchDOGS) serving our campus. They will be indoors and outdoors throughout the day helping maintain safety for our campus. We are very appreciative of our dads, this program, and the PTA Chairpersons (Mr. and Mrs. Opersteny) for making this possible! I want to remind parents that do drop off their children early (prior to 7:15a.m.) to please remember that staff members are not on duty until 7:15a.m. I do have one assistant that comes in at 7:00 a.m. to monitor early arrivers in the rotunda if you must drop off prior. Therefore, please know that prior to 7:15 a.m. may not ensure that your child has supervision. With the recent threat, I am concerned about their safety. Thank you for your diligence with this manner. We are taking this threat seriously and doing everything we can to ensure our students are safe while in our care. Thank you for trusting us with your children and know that we love them too! Thank you, Tara Bailey Parents,
It is with great pleasure that I returned today from maternity leave. I had the warmest welcome from all of my staff and students. It has been a wonderful day! After having such a positive day, we did receive some important safety information that I want to pass along to you. Please take time to discuss this with your family (see attached letters as well as a hard copy that went home with students this afternoon). We have been informed of a recent threat for San Antonio Area Schools; therefore, we stopped our normal afternoon duties to take the time to review our crisis procedures with the students. We want to make every effort possible to ensure if we were ever one of the unfortuante schools to experience such an incident that we are prepared. The details of this "threat" are unknown as you will see in the letter. Please know that we put safety first and we will continue to review our plans with the students in the coming weeks.
