Our 4th grade students will be visiting the Mills Spring Cabin at Bradley Middle School this week. This is an authentic cabin and grounds created by the Bradley students, faculty, and community. I had the opportunity to be part of this project from the inception to the building of the cabin, as an assistant principal. I am always so proud of all the additions that have been made over the years. Mr. Mike Bailey is the driving force for the Mill Springs learning laboratory. I know our kids will have a great time. Ms. Luna, Ms. Morris and Ms. Forsyth’s classes will attend on April 8, and Ms. Cowan, Valdez, and Cue’s classes will go on April 9.
Wednesday, April 9 we will welcome our incoming kindergarten students and their parents/guardians to a preview of Tuscany Heights and information on registration. The kinder students will be entertained by our student leaders and PTA moms in the cafeteria and the parents will meet the kinder teachers and hear about our exemplary campus.
Our school donated over 6000 book to the North East ISD PTA used book drive. The students who donated the most books will be attending a special reward party sponsored by Bricks 4 Kidz on April 10 in the library.
Friday, April 11 we will have the Stripes Party for the classes earning the most stripes for excellent behavior at lunch, before school, and in the hallway. On Friday, the 5th grade class will attend their field trip to the Botanical Gardens. This is a perfect time of the year to see all the flowers and enjoy the San Antonio spring weather.
A SPECIAL NOTE FROM NEISD RISK MANAGEMENT: Every spring, Mexican free-tailed bats (Tadarida brasiliensis) migrate 1,000 miles from their winter home in Mexico to Bracken Cave outside northern Bexar County. Considered the largest known habitat of Mexican free-tail bats in the world, Bracken Cave houses more than 20 million bats, making it the largest-known concentration of mammals on earth.
Each year, as they migrate to central Texas, weak or sick bats fall from the sky onto our lawns, streets and school yards. Inevitably, across the state, there are reports of children picking up fallen bats to show their friends, exposing anyone who may touch the bat to possible exposure to rabies. Students and staff not to touch or handle fallen bats.
The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District has provided the attached important safety reminders to prevent rabies exposure along with the correct response protocol should a fallen bat be found or an exposure occur at your campus. Please share these important reminders with your staff and students.
