Helpful Information

From the School Nurse:

On or before the last day of school, please pick up your child’s medication. The medication cannot be sent home with your childNo exceptions to this procedure will be madeAny medication not picked up by the last day of school will be properly disposed of by Health Services if other arrangements have not been made. Should other arrangements be necessary, please contact the school nurse.

If your child will require medication at school next year, it must be brought to school by an adult.

North East Independent School District policy prohibits students from transporting medication to and from school. All medication must be in the current and properly labeled prescription or medication container. Medication administered at school must be accompanied by the district’s Medication Administration Request Form. This form authorizes school personnel to administer prescribed daily or as needed medication and must be signed by you and your child’s physician. This form is available from your school nurse or from the NEISD Health Services web page (Medication Forms).

We want all students to know the proper use of medication and that misuse of any medication can have potentially serious consequences. All prescription medications and over the counter medications must be treated carefully and cautiously. Your student’s safety is our priority.

Thank you very much for your cooperation in this matter. If you have a question regarding medication for next year or picking up the medication at the end of this year, please call your school nurse.

May 24, 2012

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Your student has been among the first to take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), and North East ISD is committed to helping your family successfully navigate through this complex system. At the time of testing, educators and students did not know the STAAR performance standards for grades 3-8. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is expected to release the performance standards for grades 3-8 in fall 2012.

TEA reports student performance on state tests in two primary ways: raw scores and scale scores. A raw score only provides the number of questions answered correctly. The district has begun to receive raw scores for some of the spring 2012 STAAR tests in grades 3-8. At the time of this letter, we have received the raw scores for Grade 5 Reading, Grade 5 Math, Grade 8 Reading and Grade 8 Math. (Please note that results are not available for STAAR Modified, STAAR Alternate or tests that were not scorable.) As we continue to receive them, the raw scores will be loaded into the NEISD Parent Portal under the STAAR Results tab for your review.

While you may be inclined to translate the raw score into a passing percentage, raw scores do not indicate whether a student passes or fails a STAAR test. Instead, the state uses scale scores to determine a student’s performance. A scale score is a better indicator of subject mastery because it takes into consideration the difficulty of individual questions. The scale scores will be established when performance standards are set by the state in fall 2012.

The official results for your student won’t be available until January of 2013 when the state provides the Confidential Student Reports (CSRs), which should include raw scores, scale scores and explanations. Your student’s CSR will be mailed to you or available through the NEISD Parent Portal.

You may access the Parent Portal at https://portal.neisd.net to review your student’s STAAR raw scores, class grades and other important information. If you don’t already have a Parent Portal account, you may register for one at the same web address. Additional information about the STAAR testing system is available at www.neisd.net/staar orwww.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/staar/.

Sincerely,

Janna Hawkins
Associate Superintendent for Instruction & Technology Services/CIO

May 20-24, 2013

Parents,
Congrats to our T.H.E. Track and Field Students! They brought back 60 Blue Ribbons, 20 Red Ribbons, 6 Yellow Ribbons, and 2 Green Ribbons! We are so proud of them as well as Mrs. Fields and Mrs. Burges.

We are rounding the corner to the end of the school year! It always excites us about the summer possibilities, but it also saddens us to be without our students for any period of time. We appreciate your help working with us to finalize the end of the school year with your children.

Cafeteria Negative Balance Procedures are district wide and only implemented this time of year to reduce negative balances before the end of the school year. Please know that we are working with our cafeteria to do everything we can to implement it. We appreciate your help in clearing up any negative balances for June 6th!

 Thank you,
Tara Bailey
